Taoiseach Leo Varadkar To Meet Mica Action Group

Government Chief Whip Joe McHugh to host private discussions with affected homeowners during Taoiseach’s visit to county

Minister Joe McHugh has confirmed Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will meet representatives of the Mica Action Group during his visit to Donegal next week.

“I have worked with the Mica Action Group for a considerable period of time and I would like to announce that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has offered to meet with representatives of the group during his visit to Donegal next week,” Mr McHugh said.

“Protecting people in their homes is a key priority for me as a Cabinet member and I would like to extend my gratitude to the Mica Action Group and the affected homeowners for putting their faith in me to deliver a solution.

“We are talking about people’s homes.  This visit will give An Taoiseach the chance to see first-hand the conditions people are enduring.

“And it is not the first time An Taoiseach has made that kind of a gesture having come to Inishowen in the wake of the floods just over a year ago and helped drive the Government’s significant and rapid investment of close to €20million in response to the devastation that hit the region.”

Mr McHugh, Government Chief Whip and Minister for the Irish language, Gaeltacht and the Islands, said:  “While final arrangements for the visit are still being decided, this engagement by An Taoiseach is a symbol of this Government’s commitment to listen to people, to act on their concerns and to improve their lives and well-being.

“Over the last two days I have had detailed discussions with Minister for Housing Damien English at the Fine Gael think-in Galway and it is hoped that in the near future I will be able to indicate to affected homeowners further progress to address their needs and the issue of Mica affected homes in Donegal.”
